 SLE for Mathematics

Finham Park School

I am the Lead Practitioner in Mathematics at Finham Park School. I have previously held departmental leadership roles including Assistant Subject Leader, Key Stage Leader and Gifted and Talented Coordinator. These roles have included responsibility for curriculum, assessment, intervention, attainment and progress. As Assistant Subject Leader, I supported my Head of Department in monitoring and evaluating the department and improving the quality of teaching and learning. My MA in Educational Leadership and Innovation gave me the opportunity to research subject leadership from a range of perspectives. I also have a whole-school leadership role leading Numeracy across the Curriculum.

My teaching experience spans key stages 3 to 5 and numerous external qualifications including GCSE Mathematics and Statistics, level 1 and 2 Functional Mathematics, OCR Additional Mathematics, AQA level 2 Further Mathematics, AS and A2 Mathematics and Further Mathematics, and International Baccalaureate. I also set up ‘Discovery’, a cross-curricular subject for year 7 combining elements of the Mathematics and Science curricula, and led the team of staff from both departments in its implementation and development.

I have undertaken many coaching and mentoring roles, and have more recently enjoyed working collaboratively with other schools to support the improvement of their Mathematics departments. I strongly believe the quality of mathematics education students receive is crucial to their futures, and feel privileged to be able to contribute to that within and outside my own school.
