SLE for MFL
I have been a Languages’ teacher at Cardinal Wiseman for eleven years and for the past six years I have been an AST in MFL undertaking outreach work for Coventry LEA. This role entailed supporting Heads of Faculty, individual staff and students in order to improve learning and teaching, motivation, external examination results and uptake in MFL. During my time as AST I also introduced the Level 2 and 3 NVQ qualifications to Coventry and I led the working group which wrote and subsequently implemented our own Coventry City NVQ. This has been exceedingly successful within and beyond the Midlands.
Prior to working at Cardinal Wiseman I taught in Birmingham for several years and in Leicestershire and I have been both KS4 Co-ordinator and Head of Faculty for MFL. I also have experience of teaching languages in primary schools and I am currently undertaking this aspect of my job in Cardinal Wiseman’s feeder schools.
I foresee my SLE role as an opportunity to work with Middle Leaders in MFL and SLTs in order to raise the profile of Languages across the City and to enhance standards and confidence in language learning and teaching for the reciprocal benefit of all involved.
